Through three collegiate seasons with the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team, Stafford alum Dylan Smith established himself as a prospect to watch. The strong armed right-hander graduated in the class of 2018, and was initially drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 2018 MLB Draft before electing to attend college and pursue his lifelong dream of playing for the Tide.
During his Junior year, Smith lead Alabama in innings pitched and finished the year with 113 strikeouts. Smith’s arm talent was apparent during the Ruston Regional as he pitched a complete game against Rider while surrendering only one run on seven hits. This strong performance catapulted Dylan up draft boards and he was ultimately selected in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. According to Jason Beck of MLB.com, Dylan’s “advanced grasp of his slider and curveball and his work with spin rates caught Detroit's attention.”
Already listed as a top ten prospect within the Tigers organization, Dylan Smith should continue taking the baseball world by storm and the Stafford community will be cheering him on all the way!
