Stafford MSD Mourns The Loss of Coach Taylor

The Stafford Municipal School District is saddened at the passing of valued Stafford High School faculty member William “Wayne” Taylor.

Taylor began working for the School District in August 2015 as a history teacher and eventually became the school’s Social Studies Department Head.

He coached Powerlifting at Stafford High and played an important role in making Powerlifting a viable high school sport in the Greater Houston area. He raised morale within the program to where the athletes were lifting more than just weights. They were lifting their spirits as well.

Taylor previously coached football in other districts, including at several Houston ISD schools.

Stafford High Athletic Director Ken Savanah Sr. described Taylor as “well-known” and “well-liked.” Savanah Sr. said Taylor played an important role in helping student-athletes, including current SHS senior Ken Savanah Jr., earn opportunities to play sports at the college level.

Taylor graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio. He played on the Tigers’ Football Team.

District counselors will be available to meet with students tomorrow and at any point in the future if they need help dealing with this loss.

There is no word on services, at this time.  Please keep the Taylor family in your thoughts and prayers.
