Stafford MSD Board Confirms Health and Safety Values in Unprecedented Times
September 22, 2021 -- STAFFORD, Texas – The Stafford Municipal School District Board of Trustees made pivotal decisions this week that underline the importance of health and safety for all students and employees relating to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in a time where federal, state, and local governance is largely in disarray and frequently changing.
Board President Christopher Caldwell said, “This is our effort to let our faculty, staff, [and] administrators know that we support you; we hear you. We’re trying to do everything within our power to make sure that you are safe and secure within the confines of legal restrictions and ramifications. Our first priority is to make sure [all of you] are safe.”
All seven board members unanimously approved the following COVID-related measures during its meeting on September 20, 2021:
- Effective August 10, 2021, each employee has been granted up to ten (10) days of additional leave to be used during the 2021-2022 school year for absences related to the COVID-19 pandemic due to either:
- The employee testing positive for COVID-19 and provides confirmation of such test to SMSD; or
- In the event SMSD requires the employee to quarantine resulting from close contact.
- In the event Governor Abbott’s Order GA-38 (which prohibits mask mandates) is rescinded, superseded, or overturned by a court of competent jurisdiction and mask mandates become legal in Texas, a required component of SMSD’s response to COVID-19 will be the required wearing of masks on SMSD property, as may be necessary on a temporary basis in view of changing local health conditions.
Additionally, the Board of Trustees also requested information from Superintendent Dr. Robert Bostic and administration that would allow the Board to consider granting staff vaccination incentives and adding a COVID-19 testing site at SMSD at a future Board meeting.
Board meetings are held the second Monday of each month in the Leonard Scarcella Administration Building at 6:30 p.m. Additional information, including agendas and minutes, are available at www.staffordmsd.org/meet-stafford/board.
