The Sports Medicine Department at Stafford MSD is committed to proving the highest medical care to all Spartan athletes.

Our team is recognized by the American Medical Association as healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians, coaches, athletes, and their families. The services provided by Athletic Trainers comprise of prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries, illnesses and medical conditions. Athletic Trainers are licensed to provide proper care for athletes, can provide information regarding the athlete’s injury, and can make recommendations for physician referrals or other healthcare providers as needed.

About Our Team

more information on Dr. Scott mckay

Dr. Scott McKay has been the Stafford Municipal School District Team Physician since 2020. Dr. McKay has been at Texas Children's Hospital seeing patients in Katy, Sugar Land, and the Medical Center for nearly 10 years. He specializes in Orthopedic injury care – especially related to sports. He has published multiple scholarly articles on sport specialization, and multiple pediatric and adolescent fractures. Dr. McKay is also an active member of the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society (PRiSM), and currently serves as the scientific program committee chair for the annual meeting (coming to Houston January 2022).  Dr. McKay has served on multiple volunteer committees of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA). Also through POSNA, he was chosen as one of 3 Traveling Fellows to South America on a 2-week academic exchange.  Dr. McKay speaks Spanish fluently and is happy to continue seeing your injured patients.

Dr. Nicholas Stetkevich has been a Stafford tean ohysician since 2022. He is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and works as a sports medicine pediatrician at Texas Children's Hospital at the specialty clinics in Sugar Land and Bellaire. He also works as a pediatrician at Texas Children's Urgent Care. He completed his pediatric training at the University of Arizona and served and extra year as chief resident. His sports medicine fellowship training was completed at Baylor College of Medicine. He is a published Author in the health field and frequently gives academic talks pertaining to pediatric sports medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). He enjoys spending time with his family and playing/watching baseball, football, and basketball.

Every student who wishes to participate should fill out the online forms in the RankOne Parent Portal and the Physical Form. Please note there will be a new Physical Form for students to fill out in order to participate in sports during the 2024-25 school year. Visiting Teams

Student Sports Medicine Program

Our Sports Medicine Students work with all athletic teams each level of UIL athletic competition. They provide basic First Aid, Sports Medicine/Athletic Training services, treatments, and rehabilitation to our athletes. Our Sports Medicine Students also attend all home and away games, practices, and scrimmages. Much of their work is after school and Saturdays, with some over the holidays.

During Junior and Senior year, Sports Medicine Students that are on the CTE Health Care Pathway are required to take Sports Medicine Practicum. Curriculum is divided into two sections; each section is directly determined by your level of experience in our program. Our curriculum covers subjects regarding the sports medicine team, injury evaluation, on field emergencies, anatomy, rehabilitation, and injury documentation.

Our Sports Medicine Students understand that there is a great time commitment for the program, and they understand that Sports Medicine Students are subject to UIL rules on eligibility. Student Sports Medicine applications go out March of every school year.

Student Insurance Information

Texas Kids First offers plans for school districts, as well as individual insurance plans for families throughout Texas. These affordable, limited-benefit plans are designed to help offset deductibles and co-insurance. The policy issued will be the contract and will govern and control the payment of benefits.
