Part of accomplishing this mission is to create rich, engaging learning experiences that foster the 21st century skills students need to compete in today's society. Communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, and digital citizenship are becoming more and more essential as we move toward an ever growing digital world.
We would like to ensure that students have access to learning anytime, anyplace through various online platforms. We also want to equip parents, students, and educators with helpful resources that can be utilized from school or home to give students access to engaging content and ensure that learning is ongoing. SMSD is proud to host the School Market in partnership with The Houston Food Bank and long-time community supporter, Mary Ann Smith.
The School Market program was developed to improve access to nutritional foods for school communities.
A key feature of School Markets is that they are staffed by students who receive training on how to set up products, restock and clean up the area after distributions. Besides being an opportunity for practiced leadership for student volunteers, School Markets provide critical nutrition to older children which results in better grades, improved attendance, and a healthier community.
Stafford MSD hosted the 3rd Annual Parent University Conference: Building Better Together.
The Parent University Conference is a wonderful opportunity for parents, caregivers, and community members to hear from our wonderful Spartan staff and community organizations on a plethora of topics that will give attendees new tools and information that can be used to support student learning.

We hope you can join us for our Annual Golf Classic benefiting Stafford MSD teachers and graduating seniors. The Stafford MSD Education Foundation is hosting an 18-hole scramble golf tournament on Monday, November 7.
Stafford MSD will honor the late Stafford High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AJROTC) Senior Army Instructor Colonel (Ret) Thomas M. Ehlinger for his unparalleled dedication to leadership and excellence. He was known by students as “The Colonel,” and he worked diligently to establish the Army JROTC program at the high school campus on July 8, 2002 until his passing on May 15, 2018.
The Stafford STEM Magnet Academy (SSMA) offers opportunities to help prepare students for college and/or career readiness in STEM fields through project-based learning, team and independent collaboration, entrepreneurship programs, and partnerships with Baylor College of Medicine and Houston Community College.
Our Chief Academic Officer Dr. Kadir Almus and his team joined the 2023 NCAA Read to the Final Four program launch on International Literacy Day with a pep rally for local students at the Houston Public Library. Read to the Final Four is a bracket-style tournament that challenges over 39,000 third graders across 391 Houston area schools to get excited about reading.
On August 29, Stafford Mayor Cecil Willis, Stafford City Council, Stafford MSD Superintendent Dr. Robert Bostic, and the SMSD Board of Trustees met to approve the 2022-23 school budget and to present a tax rate. The team of 15 is the only group in the state of Texas who collaborate on a school’s budget and have done this since 1982.
A great Spartan crowd showed up on Saturday, August 6 as we welcomed around 2,000 attendees to the second annual Party on the Plaza. Our Educational Plaza was filled with families, staff, and community ready to close out the summer and embark on the 2022-23 school year together.
On July 26, 2022, Stafford MSD and Lamar Consolidated ISD were proud to host the second "A Day with the United States Secret Service" in Stafford, Texas at the Stafford Centre. Stafford MSD Superintendent Dr. Robert Bostic spearheaded the first event in 2018, and invited Superintendent of LCISD Dr. Roosevelt Nivens, to multiply efforts and host the program together in 2022.
At the close of the 2021-22 school year, Stafford MSD hosted an awards ceremony to honor employees of the year on Tuesday, June 7. District Teacher of the Year was awarded to Meghann Adkins, a U.S. History and AP Human Geography teacher. District Rookie Teacher of the Year went to Meredith Mohr, an English Language Arts and AP Language and Composition teacher.
At this time of the year, it's important for our technology team to review and reset each device in order to keep iPads in the best condition. In order to do this, we need all Spartan students to return their iPads even if they plan to return for summer learning. Students will be able to turn in their device on the date set by the campus principal, and/or after the last final exam.
On May 16, the Stafford MSD Board of Trustees reviewed and discussed the official canvass results from the general election held earlier this month in the City of Stafford including swearing in new members and reorganizing the group. For the first time in the district's 40-year history, there are currently 3 board members who also graduated from Stafford High School including Manuel Hinojosa, Dawn Reichling and newest member Patricia Soza-Montelongo.
The Stafford MSD Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, May 4 to receive the investigative report from an independent law firm, including direct findings and recommendations.
It was a packed house at the Board Meeting on Monday, May 9 as the Board of Trustees and administration recognized over 100 students for their outstanding accomplishments in the UIL State Soccer Tournament, DECA, SkillsUSA, Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE), and the Houston Community College Associates Degree program.
It’s been a dream five years in the making, and today the Stafford Municipal School District’s (SMSD) new Agriculture building is a reality. SMSD students and administrators were on hand Saturday, April 23, to officially open the facility, located at 1001 Constitution Avenue in Stafford, TX, with a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
We are bursting with pride for our very own #SMSDAlumni Jalen Pitre from the Class of 2017, who was drafted by the Houston Texans in round 2 of the #NFLDraft this past weekend. He is the first student from Stafford MSD to be drafted in the early rounds by the NFL, and many folks from Stafford have been calling it for years.
The Spartan boys from Stafford High School Varsity team made history over the weekend and the team is all smiles as the Region 3-4A champions. The team will play against the Boerne Greyhounds on Wednesday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the Georgetown ISD Stadium. The winner will advance to the State Finals on Friday, April 15. Go Spartans!
This year we are excited to announce that Stafford Early Childhood Center Principal Twyla Hynes has been selected as Region 4's Principal of the Year for an elementary grade level campus. Ms. Hynes is dedicated to excellence on her campus and does a great job making sure staff, parents and students are learning and having fun everywhere they go on campus. We are grateful to have her on the SMSD team!
We are proud to announce the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) has selected Dr. Robert Bostic as the 2022 District Administrator of the Year for his work in advancing teaching and learning through innovative technology at Stafford MSD.
Our incredible Stafford DECA Team is on a roll! The team went to the State Competition Feb. 24-26, 2022 and were victorious. Students Naomi Thomas and Alejandra Paredes were selected to represent Stafford High School in the National Competition in Atlanta on April 22-26.
Welcome home, Staff Sergeant Jose Medrano-Amaya! He returned home after a 7 month deployment in the United States Air Force. His first stop was to Stafford Municipal School District where he has 3 children at different campuses. Thank you for your service!
In January, SMSD participated in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo School Art Program and competed in district shows judged by the HLSR's School Art Committee. Check out this year's winners from Stafford Elementary, Stafford Middle and Stafford High Schools. Congratulations to all of our student winners and their art teachers!
According to the Stafford Police, our complex is safe and clear at this time. Although we are committed to a climate of safety and security on campus, disruptive threats of any kind and dangerous rumors can cause emotional distress to any individual including students and staff. We encourage our parents and families to talk with your students at home about these incidents as each individual plays a critical role during emergency situations. SMSD remains here to support all students and staff, and will continue with safety planning drills and conversations about appropriate responses to these types of situations.
The Special Demo Teams includes students from SMS and SHS, and they recently rocked the house at a private residence in River Oaks for a holiday party. All are welcome to attend the Kickstart Belt Ceremony on Wednesday, December 8 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Stafford Middle School Red Gym where the Demo Teams will perform again.
Considering some of the recent and tragic school safety events, Stafford MSD wants our families, staff, and community to know that we remain committed to campus safety and security while we strive to provide academic excellence. All district operations and classes will continue on Friday, December 3, as we take maximum precautionary measures including increased police presence throughout campus. If you would like to report any school safety issues, such as threats or dangerous rumors, please contact an administrator or police officer based on your student’s campus.
The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) is pleased to award Stafford Municipal School District the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE). ASBO International’s COE recognizes districts that have met the program’s high standards for financial reporting and transparency. The school district earned the Certificate of Excellence for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2020.
Veterans Day on November 11 is special to Stafford MSD, and we give thanks and honor to all veterans, especially those who are a part of the SMSD team and part of the Stafford community. We are grateful that they have served our country and others, and it is a honor to pause and reflect on their extraordinary courage and commitment. At SMSD, we have 13 veterans on staff throughout all of our campuses including our IT and Transportation department.
It's time for the 2021 Annual ABC13’s Share Your Holidays Food Drive, now in it’s 42nd year, is an annual event benefiting the Houston Food Bank. The Houston community shows their holiday spirit by donating food in a white bin at every SMSD lobby, a local Red Barrel or during the ABC13 event’s live broadcast. During the week of December 1, those who are experiencing food insecurity can call our request line to reserve a special holiday food box. If you are able to donate, please drop by during school hours now through Tuesday, November 30.
Stafford STEM Magnet Academy Application Open for 2022-23! The Stafford STEM Magnet Academy (SSMA) offers opportunities to help prepare students for college and/or career readiness in STEM fields through project-based learning, team and independent collaboration, entrepreneurship programs, and university partnerships with Baylor College of Medicine, Rice University, University of Houston Sugar Land, and Houston Community College. If your child is interested and will be entering grades 3 through 9 in school year 2022-23, start the application process now.
The Stafford Municipal School District Board of Trustees made pivotal decisions this week that underline the importance of health and safety for all students and employees relating to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in a time where federal, state, and local governance is largely in disarray and frequently changing.

Stafford MSD is in the process of finalizing our plan and criteria for Remote Conferencing based on guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the 2021-2022 school year. Remote conferencing is remote instruction in which eligible students at an off-campus location may virtually participate in classes provided by a teacher for up to 20 days.
As Stafford MSD continues to navigate the evolving pandemic, and its challenges, we remain committed to making decisions that put safety and education first, while also following guidance from Texas Education Agency (TEA), local and state officials, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Our team at SMSD is actively working to support you and your students during this time, and we look forward to facing this challenge together for our Spartans.
As a parent/guardian, you have the right to request that the school retain your child at the previous grade level for the 2021-2022 school year. In order to do this, you must submit a formal request to your child’s school either in person or via email.
As the only municipal school district in the state of Texas, the Board of Trustees understand the value of hiring and retaining top talent in education. After a year of COVID-19, the district remains committed to providing excellence in education for our students, team, and community. Last night the Board of Trustees at Stafford MSD voted to approve several pay increases for the 2021-2022 school year for both current employees and new hires.
Chief Operations & Innovations Officer Marva Rasberry has announced her retirement after 38 years of working at Stafford MSD. Ms. Rasberry began working at the school in 1983 as the Business teacher at Stafford High School and will bid the district farewell at the end of this month. In July, the campus will celebrate 40 years of educational excellence made possible by campus leaders like Chief Marva Rasberry.
As we approach the end of the school year, all devices (laptop, iPad or hotspot) issued to your student will need to be returned to the district. Last summer, Stafford MSD purchased devices for all the students enrolled. This helped launch the school district’s 1:1 device initiative. We hope that this was beneficial to your student and that it helped making learning online easier. Check out the schedule and special instructions for students enrolling in Summer School.
Effective on Saturday, June 5, 2021, SMSD will no longer require masks to be worn on campus. Face mask coverings will be optional for students, staff, parents, and visitors.
Over 1,700 (United States and overseas) high school JROTC programs participated in the JLAB competition, and it is a challenge for any program to make it to the next level. Stafford High School didn't think 1 team was enough and they have officially qualified 2 SHS teams into the AJROTC Leadership Academic Bowl.

The coordinator of the program this season, Ms. Tammy Bui actually forecasted Sophomore Justin Amomoy's historic achievement only weeks ago. She shared her goal with SMSD that one day one of her students would sell at the HLSR School Art Auction, "Every year I see the selected pieces and I know our students' work is that good, too!"
This virtual town hall for the community will be rescheduled as soon as possible and will be a meeting for all parents and community to discuss plans and propel ahead after almost a year of COVID-19.
In February, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art season wrapped up for SMSD, but not without our student participants roping in 7 ribbons at the high school, middle school and elementary school.
National School Counseling Week 2021 is being celebrated nationwide on February 1-5 to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within our school systems. Here at Stafford MSD, we have a strong team of female counselors and we will spend each day highlighting their work on all of our campuses.
Our SMSD Library Coordinator, Mr. Horace Shane Kenney was pleased to accept a donation of two books from Xavier Herrera, the Board Secretary of Mexican American School Boards Association (MASBA). These books hold special significance as they were written and edited by Dr. Jayme Mathias, the Executive Director of MASBA.
The SMSD Board ordered the change to position-based elections by resolution at its meeting on January 11, 2021. Under the new position-based election method, the seven positions on the Board are designated by number, and candidates for trustee are voted on and elected separately for specific positions on the Board. A candidate will be designated on the official ballot according to the number of the position for which he or she seeks election
The event on Thursday was largely successful. It was a great team effort by the Stafford community to join together and make a difference despite the circumstances of COVID-19. Together we saved 63 lives!
In the days before Christmas, Santa and his elves were still busy at work to honor everything our employees have done and wrote a special Christmas story called “Twas The Night Before Winter Break”. Additionally, the SMSD Board of Trustees sends a very special holiday greeting.
The Stafford High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AJROTC) has prepared a virtual presentation honoring all Veterans across the city of Stafford.
Our Varsity football boys ended a fantastic season on Saturday, November 21 in a tough loss to Tyler Chapel Hill during the Area round. The season was even more challenging and limited due to COVID-19, so we are extremely proud of our Spartans and expect them to continue pursuing greatness on and off the field.

Please check out our Re-Entry Plans for the 2020-21 school year including a required form needed by Monday, July 27 for every student planning to attend SMSD. The form has been provided in English and Spanish. We will continue to update this page with all of the latest information including any changes or modifications. Due to the nature of COVID, you can expect these updates to take place frequently and to be posted to the website first.
Camp has been closed for 14 days until July 8 because a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 last Wednesday, June 24.
The camp will be every Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM starting on Monday, June 8 through Friday, July 17.
All interested students from 7th to 12th grade are encouraged to participate. Cost to attend is $25 and $15 to add a second student. If you'd like to register, be sure to read our Parent Letter to get more information and sign the Release Form.
The deadline to sign up is June 30, 2020.

Stafford MSD and other departments are closely monitoring the progress of the Novel Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, and following the advice of the CDC and the Fort Bend County Health & Human Services to prepare for any eventuality.
The Census is more than a population count. It provides a picture of our nation that assists in determining where to build new schools, hospitals and businesses. It also assists us in visualizing how our community has changed over time. This valuable information is why “Stafford MSD Counts!”
Stafford MSD Board President Christopher Caldwell started a new tradition at Monday's Board Meeting by presenting the First Annual President's Award in Educational Excellence.
In May, these students will become the first Stafford MSD students to earn an Associate's Degree before they walk across the stage to accept their high school diploma.
“As a teacher, I saw such a need for it, to help students with what they’re dealing with in their lives,” Hobbs said. “I wanted to have a larger impact with more students.”

The Stafford Municipal School District was proud to welcome legendary martial arts champion and Kickstart Kids Founder Chuck Norris on Wednesday evening at the Stafford High Competition Gym.
The Stafford Municipal School District celebrated the ceremonial groundbreaking of the new Administration Building on Tuesday morning.
In less than four months, Paul Phung and Hira Ahmed will be two of the 54,369 undergraduate students at Texas A&M University in College Station.

For Red, who grew up in Tuscaloosa County in the 1940s and 1950s, becoming involved in Stafford MSD was all about giving back.
