School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is a group comprised of parents,
students, staff and community members. The group acts collectively to
provide advice to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees on aspects of
the school district's health program. The members of SHAC are generally
selected in three ways:
- Recruitment - The SHAC members actively seek out new members to join.
- Appointment - Individuals selected by the School Board or District Administration
- Volunteer - Parent and community members volunteer their time because they desire to be involved
What do they do?
an advisory council, the SHAC provides advice on coordinated school
health programming and its impact on student health and learning.
School health focuses on health and physical education, a healthy school
environment, health and nutrition services, counseling services, staff
wellness promotion and parent and community involvement. The advisory
council members serve as health advocates and only present information
to the School Board and Superintendent and are not a decision-making or
