Technology TEKS

Technology Applications is a required enrichment curriculum specified in TEC 28.002 that focuses on the teaching, learning and integration of digital technology skills across the curriculum. "Digital technology" refers to the use of computers and related technologies such as digital cameras, scanners, probes and handheld digital devices. The curriculum begins in pre-kindergarten and continues through grade twelve. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Technology Applications curriculum (Chapter 126) has six strands based on the National Educational Technology Standards for students: creativity and innovation; communication and collaboration; research and information fluency; critical thinking; problem solving and decision making; digital citizenship; and technology operations and concepts.

Technology Application TEKS are integrated into the core academic subject areas so that students can develop skills, increase understanding, explore applications, and achieve computer literacy as a life skill. Digital Learning Specialists and academic teachers collaborate and provide students opportunities to integrate State-required Technology Applications TEKS into academic units of study, including Internet Safety lessons.
