Stafford MSD's Legislative Priorities

The Stafford Municipal School District (SMSD) supports the efforts of the Texas Association of School Boards and other educational agencies in the development of their core principles.

The SMSD Board is adopting the following legislative priorities:

  • Reforming the State of Texas' school finance system.

  • Establishing a finance system that provides substantial equal access to similar revenue per student at similar tax effort, adjusting for disparate property values throughout Texas.

  • Updating the transportation funding formula to address the current and increasing cost of transportation maintenance and operation.

  •  Encouraging a bill for municipal school districts to receive adequate transportation funding for students that ride buses in a reduced radius of miles to the school campuses.

  • Allowing school boards more flexibility to raise and lower taxes within voter-approved limits.

  • Advocating funding for unfunded mandates.
