 Over the holidays, Stafford Elementary students documented the minutes they spent reading and then the Administration calculated totals by class, grade level and individual. The event was sponsored by Whataburger and the Houston Rockets Read Nation;

Stafford Elementary competed against numerous other campuses from other districts including HISD, Alief, Fort Bend and Galena Park. If Stafford Elementary, as a campus, has the most minutes read, we have the chance to win a customized Houston Rockets reading nook for our library. The 2nd and 3rd place campuses win gift certificates. Considering the districts new 20/20 Vision, we felt it was a great way to promote reading and encourage parent participation at home.

Grade Level Winners are shown in the attached picture:

(seated L-R) Andrea Garcia (1st), Victory A. (Kinder), Danna Garcia (PreK)

(middle row L-R) Landan Anderson (1st), Raniel Soto (2nd), Brian Wilkins (1st)

(back row L-R) Brian Johnson (4th), Cody Purdue (3rd)

Brian Johnson was the overall campus winner having read over 2550 minutes.

Ms. Meihwa Yang’s Kinder class was the overall class winner having read a combined 4265 minutes collectively
